Do you manage an apartment block or set of units? Have you been considering the installation of individual water meters? See the process we follow here at Gallant to ensure your experience is as smooth and stress free as possible!
Feeling Overwhelmed?
The installation of individual water meters may seem like a big job. If the property has individual control valves for each apartment, then generally the installation process is straight forward. However, there are some properties that do not have individual stop taps and will require additional work to separate the apartments for the installation of individual meters, but we are able to advise and quote accordingly should this be necessary.
Are There Rules and Guidelines You Need to Follow?
Yes; there are generally strict rules involved with the installation of individual meters and these vary with different water authorities. At Gallant Plumbing, we organise everything from the initial application, through to preparing and arranging the installation of the water meters from the local authority.
Is there disruption to tenants and water use?
There is unfortunately some disruption to the water service during this installation set up which can’t be helped. The only mandatory requirement is that access is available to all locked areas on the day of the installation by the water authority, otherwise they charge an extra fee to return.
What are the Benefits of Installing Individual Water Meters?
A core advantage of individual water meters is that each unit/apartment will only be charged for their individual water use. That means the amount each unit is charged on their water bill, is a true reflection of their water use, instead of being evenly distributed between all units. This decreases arguments and disagreements with water bills between tenants.
Another benefit is that when a water leak presents itself at a property, if there are individual water meters installed, this makes it far easier to narrow down where the leak could be coming from. If a tenant has an unusually high water bill, it is highly likely the water leak is associated with their apartment/unit. This type of information means a plumber can more easily identify where the leak is coming from and resolve the issue efficiently, meaning a cheaper plumbing bill for you!
