Platinum electrical shared a post on tips to motivate yourself at work and I thought it was simply too good not to share! Here’s a summary of the top 8 tips to motivate yourself at work from Gallant Plumbing!
8 Tips to Motivate Yourself at Work
1. Shift your focus towards the things you CAN control.
Unfortunately as we all know, we can’t control everything! It’s probably easier said than done, but it’s important to let go of those things out of your control and reallocate that energy to excel at things you CAN control.
2. Write down your goals
So now you have reallocated your focus onto the things you can control, start noting them down! This can help a mountain of tasks, seem achievable and can reduce that overwhelmed feeling. It can be greatly satisfying to write down goals and tick them off as they are achieved!
3. Celebrate your wins!
Every time you tick something off your list, make sure you celebrate your achievement, big or small! It’s important to recognise that you achieved your desired result, all due to your hard work and efforts! When you celebrate your wins, it creates happiness, motivation and a circle of positiveness.
4. Take regular breaks
Sometimes when you know you have to get something done, you want to get it done as quickly as possible! However, taking regular breaks can help you immensely to feel more focused and motivated. Ensure you leave your desk and get some fresh air. By the time you get back to your desk, you should be left feeling much more focused and energised. Participating in mindfulness at work goes a very long way in keeping yourself motivated.
5. Catch-up with your colleagues outside the office.
This can be quite beneficial for feeling more motivated at work, as being around people who do similar work to yours may provide inspiration and a new perspective. And interacting with your colleagues in another context can increase your confidence around them , which can strengthen your team bond.
6. Ask ‘Why’
When you do something all the time, it becomes automated and you tend to do it on autopilot. Asking “why?” lets you stay in touch with the reasoning behind your actions and the vision your work carries out. Asking this simple questions can identify your motivation and helps to get things done.
7. Ask for feedback
Feedback is an absolute necessity to improve and become better at what you do! It’s not always possible to be aware of what we are lacking in our performance. Feedback is a great way to identify where we are doing well, and also areas where we have the opportunity to improve. The simplest way is to ask your colleagues to evaluate you and give you any tips and advice!
8. Use positive words
Positivity breeds positivity! Positive words make for a positive environment, so avoid using negative ones. Each morning, say aloud what you want to achieve during the day, and use only positive words and encouragement!
