3 Tips to keep your Gutters Clean & Functioning.

So you have had your gutter and downpipes cleaned. Yay problem solved! Hold that thought…  If you were to look in your gutters a couple of days later, you will be sure to find they have started filling up again and you will soon find yourself back to square one; full gutters which will not cope with the next downpour. Here are some handy tips to keep your gutters clean & well maintained so you won’t have to worry about those more frequent, tropical like storms!

Step 1: Invest in Gutter guards or full mesh over gutters.

Gutter guards or mesh are essentially caps that go over your gutters to minimise debris pileups. These  still enable water to pass through with ease and where it needs to go, however will stop leaves, branches and other nuisances from piling up in the gutters and preventing them from functioning as they should.

 

Step 2: Cut away trees that hang over the gutters

So you have a big tree in your front yard that keeps your house cool in summer and warm in winter? Although all seems positive, it is most likely that this big tree is causing lots of leaves to fill up your gutters. No, I’m not suggesting you cut down that big, beautiful tree, but by simply trimming back branches that hang directly over your gutters, you can eliminate a large percentage of leaves and sticks entering your gutters.

 

Step 3: Monitor the amount of dirt and debris in your gutters.

Ignorance is NOT bliss! Just ignoring those gutters helps no one whatsoever!

It’s important to keep an eye on your gutters, by simply looking up at them from ground level, or taking a quick look up on a ladder. If you are able to keep an eye on your gutters and identify when attention is needed, you will be able to prevent unwanted damage from occurring.
