Our certified Melbourne gas fitter recently serviced a client who was experiencing a gas leak. The client called us because they had received an abnormally high gas bill and noticed a strange gas smell. The client had the Australian Gas Network attend the site earlier in the day, informing them that a gas leak was present on the fitting line. A gas leak in Melbourne is not a rare problem for us to deal with.
Before we arrived on site, the clients gas had been capped off. The first thing our technician did when arriving on site was test the fitting line. The manometre (an instrument used for measuring gas pressure) dropped dramatically which was a strong indication of a significant gas leak. The first step the technician took to resolve the issue was to isolate the external hot water unit. The leak still did not stop. He then Capped off the lugged elbow for the cooktop. The leak then stopped. From this, the technician was able to determine that the cooktop was the problem area for the gas leak. Both appliances were reconnected to the gas, with the gas cooktop still causing a leak.
The gas fitter then used soapy water to test all fittings and connections in the cupboard. Through this process, no leaks were identified. The next step for the technician was to remove the oven, which when he did, revealed a strong gas smell. A large leak was identified in a loose nut connection on the cooktop itself.

To amend this leak, our technician took the connections apart and reinstalled teflon and tightened the loose nut. The fitting line was retested and the pressure then held. The gas meter was reconnected and re-tested, confirming that the leak had been resolved.
To ensure the issue had been fully resolved, the technician attended and tested all appliances at the property. No other leaks were present therefore the job was deemed complete.
Our gas fitter took time to explain to the client the works he had done and that the issue had now been resolved. Our technicians never leave a site until our clients feel confident and happy about the service they were provided. We want our clients to feel well informed and confident in our service and we believe it is things like this which makes us the best Melbourne plumber.
