We recently sent our gas fitter plumber to a job where the central gas heater was isolated at a domestic home in Hawthorn East. The incident had occurred due to an NBN technician accidentally hitting a gas line. This resulted in the pilot light unable to be relit. This meant the client was in a position where they couldn’t use their central heating in winter. We were determined to resolve the clients gas issue in a professional and timely manner.
Upon first inspection when arriving on site, we found the gas had been isolated. It was important to check if any leaks were present and we did this by turning the gas back on and using our special equipment. It was great news to find that there were no existing leaks in the gas line. We then attempted to light the pilot but found the main gas control to be seized. When attending site the following day, the first thing we did was isolate the gas supply at the meter. Our gas fitter plumber then went on to disconnect the gas fitting line from the central heating unit. He then removed the main burner assembly and gas valve. He then cleaned out the air inlet and combustion chamber before fitting the new gas valve to the burner assembly and installing the assembly into the heater. The Gas fitting was then connected and tested. The pilot light successfully lit and the main burner pressure was set. The plumber then carefully reassembled the unit. A carbon monoxide test was run to ensure the gas works completed were operating in a safe manner. The airflow through the registers was also tested. Both tests demonstrated the desired results, meaning the job had been successfully completed.
